1. Discover your learning style

We are all different individuals and what works best for others may not always be the same for us. Are you someone who can absorb information better when you reread your lecture notes or do you simply prefer listening to recordings of lectures over and over again to retain information? Understanding the type of learner is critical to guide you to achieve your fullest potential.

2. Practice makes perfect

There’s never enough practice one can have. We are bound to make mistakes but only then would we learn. With every practice, we learn not to repeat past mistakes. However, practice does not always equate to perfection. First and foremost, you have to learn practicing with the right methods.

3. Practice self-discipline

Be strict with yourself and strive to accomplish the set tasks you have set for yourself daily. You have to remember that what’s left today gets carried over to the next day. Thus, the less you do today, the more you have tomorrow. Before long, you would be overwhelmed by the massive pile of unfinished work on your desk.

4. Understanding quality over quantity

In the process of completing practice papers to achieve content mastery, do bear in mind that quality outweighs quantity. As the exam season rolls in, I’m sure all of us are anxious to complete numerous sets of practice papers.

However, it is ultimately not about the number of sets of practice papers you complete but rather about how much content and knowledge you gain after reviewing each one.

5. Effective note-taking process

With the advancement of technology, we fall prey to peer pressure and internet influences. I am sure many of us have come across aesthetically pleasing notes with a myriad of colors. In an attempt to recreate such notes that are pleasing to the eyes, we find ourselves wasting more time on the note-taking process. However, this does not apply to all students out there since some people may find color-coordinating helpful in their revision process.

However, for some, they may spend hours rewriting lecture notes over and over again just to achieve aesthetic appeal. If you find yourself devoting more time to make your notes look pleasant rather than focusing on how the notes serve as a guide for you to better retain information, it may be time for you to explore different note-taking methods.

Final thoughts

As you reach the end of this article, you may be wondering if there are even more revision techniques. Realistically speaking, there are. But it is up to you to find out your own learning needs and habits so as to find ways to customize your revision methods. Ultimately, we all learn best differently.
