1 to 1 Chemistry Tuition

Chemistry forms one of the 3 branches of Science. Focusing on elements and its related compounds, Chemistry is a staple in Singapore’s educational system, with almost every student taking Chemistry to the O Levels.

Syllabus Content

Chemistry is split mainly into 2 components, firstly Inorganic Chemistry, followed by Organic Chemistry.

Inorganic Chemistry sets the foundation of many students from the lower Secondary years. As students go up to Upper Secondary, they get to choose whether they will like to do Pure or Elective Chemistry – differing in the range of topics as well as overall difficulty.

Foundation at the O Level is important as the A Levels are based on student’s knowledge at the O Levels and is significantly harder.

Chemistry is also offered under the IB Program, under Standard Level (SL), Higher Level (HL) Chemistry and as a portion of Coordinated Sciences.

Exam Format

Under the O Level syllabus, marks weightage are the highest under the structured and free response section.

Under the A-Level syllabus, the structured and free-response section together takes up 65% of the final grade. Scoring well for Chemistry under both syllabus should therefore first begin by scoring well in this paper. In this paper, students are tested on their ability to first react and answer questions based on situations in the structured response portion. Under the free response portion, students need to answer data-based questions that test their abilities to interpret, evaluate, or solve problems using a stem of information given. Practicing questions help students to improve their ability to spot topics and concepts tested within the questions. With this knowledge, they are then able to gain more marks when answering questions.

An important aspect of the O Levels exams is the practical assessment. The practice assessment tests students on their ability to execute an experiment. They are then required to showcase their data as well as any relevant conclusion from the experiment. Taking up 20% of the final grade, students are given practices in school to prepare for this.

At the A Levels, students are no longer required to execute a whole experiment, but are still needed to plan it out as part of an examinable paper. Given that it is a written paper, it is all the more important for students to duly prepare for the paper, practicing with help from teachers and tutors for the correct way to answer the analytical questions.

Chemistry Tuition

An experienced tutor makes scoring A for Chemistry at every level easier! Especially for weaker students, external help through tuition helps them to improve given limited time before national exams. In Chemistry tuition, tutors guide students through the thought process and pinpoint the concepts for them. Tuition teachers aid in the clarification process as external help. They also teach students different ways to approach the mass of content packed in the syllabus.
