Oftentimes, we let our emotions take control over us. Believe it or not, we’re all guilty of procrastination. In this article, we strive to provide you with possible solutions to kick off the habit of procrastination.

1. Have a clear goal in mind

First and foremost, know what you wish to achieve in the future. Be it entering the JC or Secondary school of your choice, or even overcoming little milestones to achieve that childhood dream of becoming a doctor. What’s important is to have a definite goal you wish to achieve as this propels you to strive hard to attain it.

Thus, every time you find yourself distracted, and delaying your tasks, take a moment to rethink what you wished to achieve initially.

2. Start a weekly planner

It may seem overwhelming to finish all your tasks in a day at a glance. Start by separating your tasks to minor tasks and completing them at set times over a span of a week. Cultivating such a habit prevents the act of burning the midnight oil and encourages consistency. Knowing that you have to finish every task at their specific time slots drives you to not let emotions of procrastination hinder you.

3. Find a conducive learning environment

A conducive learning environment aids in productivity. I’m sure some of us are guilty of lounging in bed to complete our assignments at times. Not only is this harmful to our eyesight over a prolonged period of time, but our bodies also become prone to a state of lethargy which hinders productivity.

To counter such feelings, a conducive learning space drives us to stay awake and be diligent to complete our tasks.

4. Find like-minded people to form a study group

As the saying goes, ‘If you want to go far, go together’. There will always be days where we feel exhausted and tired of repeating the incessant cycle of studying for our exams.

As such, with the presence of a peer support group, there are always people to check up on you and monitor your progress.

5. Reward yourself

Don’t be afraid to reward yourself along the way. Keep it simple. Be it taking a stroll at the park or even granting yourself an hour of leisure time.

Trust me, with such rewards, you are more likely to accomplish your tasks because now, there is an incentive for you to do so. However, do strike a balance between leisure and revision time.
